Ask your hotel to make reservations for you. Most hotels will provide this service for free for guests.

Just walk right in. We did this two weeks ago. There are no long lines at this Accademia like there is in Florence. I also suggest going to the Peggy Guggenheim museum a short walk to the east down the same side of the grand canal. Loads of nice shops along the way. No long lines there either. You will have to check your backpacks and large bags at both locations.

I agree with Larry. I visited the Accademia in Venice a couple of years ago. I arrived when the doors opened in the morning and had the place to myself--what a treat.
