Accademia tickets not available online- am I out of luck???

I was looking to purchase tickets online for the Accademia in Florence (sheerly to see the David), butthey are completely unavailable online the week we are in Florence. What does that mean? I am a bit panicked now! If anyone has had that happen and still managed to get in without too much trouble I'd appreciate hearing about it (I have no intention of waiting in line for hours so this is quite distrsssing).

Thanks!

Good to know Steve! I will keep checking to see if something changes because I'd really hate to do it without a reservation. If the line was ridiculously long we'd probably end up skipping it quite honestly; our time in each of our stops on this trip is too short to waste it in 3 hour lines! But if the afternoons are better maybe we will end up trying it then. I appreciate the feedback

Actually, there is a lot more to see than just David. When are you going? If you are looking too far ahead, tickets may not be available online.

You can try phoning, during working hours, or even better, ask your hotel to reserve for you.

I hate to rack up charges on international calls, and I like having the proof of purchase abilities that you have online, but if it comes down to it I suppose I will have to suck it up and call. It definitely isn't just because it is too far out- I'd be able to purchase them for the following week, or I would have thought that might be the problem. We are hoping to go either April 22 or 23, and while I know there are other things to see there, the David is the only reason I'm going- we have plenty of museum time during other parts of the trip! Thanks!

Our hotel made our reservations for us, a day in advance, it worked great.

Good to know Jesse, I think I will contact our hotel and see if they can take care of that as well.

What would I do without the Helpline! :)

Kelly, how far in advance are you trying to book?

Your hotel can get tickets for you. Ours did it the day before we wanted to go.

Safe Travels!

Thanks all! I just wonder now what it means that they aren't available online for that particular week and they ARE available every other week! I started to worry there might be something going on that week that is causing the Accademia to close, or anything along those lines.

You can call landlines in Italy for 2 cents a minute with Skype, or otherwise cheaply with your VOIP of preference. They speak great English at the reservation call center. If something special/wacky/otherwise is going on that week, they'll let you know for sure.

Even without a special plan calls to Italy won't break the bank. They speak excellent English and the entire transaction was done for me in 3 minutes. 20 years ago, when I was madly in love with my Canadian boyfriend I paid $3 to listen to 20 seconds of his voice on his answering machine. Today, a 3 minute call to the Academia should cost you less than 30 cents.

We had no choice but calling because we needed tickets for a group of 6 and at the maximum tickets available online per time slot for one order was 5 at the time. And we stayed at a self-catering appartment with nobody to call on our behalf.

They never put ALL available tickets for sale online. They always leave some for people to purchase over the phone or right on site at the museum.
