Accademia Gallery Florence

Are timed reservations for the Accademia really necessary at the end of February?
I have a timed reservation for the Ufizzi with a Passepartout. But I was hoping we could just walk up & buy a ticket at the Accademia.
Opinions please!

I just went on the official ticket site and I can see that tickets are currently available for all admission times two days from today, a Saturday. Low season. No problem. Will ticket situation still be the same one month from now, at the end of February? Probably. Maybe. Maybe not. Does anybody know what the stock market will be in 30 days?

I'll be in Florence at the end of next week. I too have my ticket for the Uffizi booked, but am hoping to walk up and buy a ticket for the Accademia. I'm planning to go w/in the first hour of opening, whatver day I go. I'll try to remember to report back about my walk-up ticket buying experience.

Hi @susan -

Reporting back on my Accademia ticket buying purchase - I bought a ticket online late the evening before I wanted to go (which was yesterday - Sunday.) There were plenty of ticket slots available. I bought mine for 8:45 am. I arrived 15 mins before my entrance time, showed the purchase receipt on my phone at the ticket exchange right across the street from the museum entrance, and went right in with no wait. I used the free guided audiotour on the Rick Steves app and stayed a little more than an hour. There was a short line of non-reserved ticket holders waiting to get in when I left. So if you KNOW at least the day before you want to go, you can save yourself a little time and buy it online - that way you speed right in.

I have to say I am very surprised at the number of tourists here - in January! The weather has been cold, but sunny and beautiful and the streets and piazzas have been pretty croweded. I had a 9:30 reservation at the Uffizi on Saturday AM and it was quite crowded. I stayed there about three hours and when i left there there was a VERY long line of people waiting to buy tickets.

I walked up and bought tickets for the Accademia back in October. It was around 12:00pm and we didn't have to wait in line at all. I was pretty surprised - maybe we just got lucky

Thank you so much Kayla for reporting back on the Accademia tickets. Also for the info about many tourists in January. I had expected February to be less crowded. Thanks to edwardius - I would have thought October to be crowded - and to others who answered. We have a general idea of the day we wish to visit, so perhaps its easier to just book a slot.
