Accademia, Florence: no more priority access with Firenzecard?

I just saw this on the Accademia's website but can't see that it's been communicated on the Firenzecard website.

http://www.galleriaaccademiafirenze.beniculturali.it/eventi/1/131/notice-firenze-card-possessors/

We inform our kind visitors that from March 1st 2019 priority access
to the Galleria dell'Accademia of Florence for Firenze Card possessors
will not be permitted. For further information, please contact
055.055.

They do not explain the details so I'm unsure if you have to stand in the regular ticket line or in one for people who already have tickets and there's just no dedicated Firenzecard entrance. I'm thinking it's the latter but... Anyway, a heads-up that something is different! Hopefully there'll be more formal info provided on this change soon.

Editing to add: if anyone is up for calling the museum, that'd be great too.

Isn't that the truth! I'm still mourning changes to the formerly-excellent Amici degli Uffizi pass some years ago. :O(

Hopefully this change will not be a big deal and just mean using the entrance/queue for people with tickets. 🤞

I saw that too but Culture Week is the 5th - 10th, and Free Sunday is the 3rd. That doesn't explain no priority entrance tomorrow (March 1, if "from" includes that date ) or Saturday, and the Accademia site doesn't specify that priority goes back into effect after Culture Week either.

Timely discussion for me. Our family of five will be in Florence in early June. I have a few questions about the Firenzecard to which I could not find answers.

  1. I'm contemplating purchasing the card for me and my wife with the understanding that most of the museums/attractions do not charge for children under 18. It appears the Duomo complex does not have a discounted or free rate for children, so would our three children then have to pay the full admission price to enter?

  2. How does one reserve the Palazzo Vechio Secret Passages tour with the card?

  3. I have seen post stating that the Firenzecard line at the Academia and Uffizi can be very long. Is that correct? If so, I'm leaning toward not purchasing the card.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ah, this text is in the "Attenzione/Warning" pop-up which appears when you first pull up the Firenzecard website:

"From 1 March 2019 the Firenzecard will no longer give priority access to the Accademia Gallery in Florence"

I'm not saying NOT to buy the card as long as the math works. Just not to be surprised if there's not a dedicated priority entry queue for Firenzecard holders at this museum. Or something. We'll see what shakes out!

dchouse, sorry but I don't have answers for your questions. As they're buried in this thread, I suggest you start a NEW thread so people who might have answers will be more apt to see them. :O)

Here are two items I noted on the firenze.it website, and the specific web pages I found them on:

http://www.firenzecard.it/index.php?option=com_eventifc3&view=vistas&task=viewplace&idplace=17&tipo=musei&lang=en

"From 1st of March 2019 the priority access to Accademia Galleria is temporarily suspended."

http://www.firenzecard.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=20&Itemid=119&lang=en

"Week of Culture 5-10 March 2019
During the Week of Culture issued by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage on March 5-10, the entrance in many State museums and archaeological sites will be free. For the occasion, the Galleria dell 'Accademia and all museums belonging to the Uffizi Galleries and the Bargello museums have decreed that on the following days:
THE PRIORITY ACCESS FOR FIRENZECARD POSSESSORS WILL NOT BE GUARANTEED.

It is advisable to check the websites of interest to evaluate the convenience of Firenzecard in this week.
Under no circumstances is reimbursement of the cost of the cards purchased. Reimbursements are not permitted, in case of renunciation by the customer, in case of partial or total closings or variations that concern the modalities of access of some services/sites included in Firenzecard offer due to episodes independent of the will of Firenzecard Manager."

LOL. "Temporarily" is a new addition to the FC site and not included on Accademia's website. It doesn't appear in the opening "Warning" text of the FC website either, or didn't when I first checked it this morning.

We'll hope that "temporarily" is the case and that info on both sites will be compatibly clear soon!
