Just ask your hotel to make the reservations. It is easier than messing about with web sites.

THANK YOU, but its not the official site and the add on doubles the admission price, I found the official site but ordering tickets constantly gives an error page, hence, I emailed the museum, waiting for resopnse.

B-ticket is the "official" site (per Rick), but they tack on fees for the reservation. The other sites are third-party sites and they tack on even more.

Please let us know if you succeed in getting a reservation by e-mail---that would be good to know.

We were very successful asking our hotel to get us tickets for both the David and Uffizi for our trip in a few weeks. Just email and ask them if they will do it. (FYI - They will expect reimbursement in cash - very common for everything in Italy. No one claims income and pays taxes. No wonder the country is going bankrupt.)

I would like to THANK all of you for your advise! The oficial site, B-Ticket, for some odd reason, keeps giving an error message when you hit buy, and I consider myself somewhat computer savy. Hence, I decided to call, operator took my name, number of tickets, and time. I asked her if she needed my credit card number, but she said NO and wished me well.I have no idea if I saved my family a wait in line, should be interesting! Gene

I wonder if the error message was due to your bank rejecting the credit card charge. Mine does that automatically with charges from Italy, unless I call them in advance and pre-authorize the charge. And even then, my American Express card still rejected the charge when we were trying to buy tickets for La Scala. Fortunately I had pre-authorized another card as a backup, so we were able to get our tickets.

This only happens with charges from Italy---I was able to charge my train tickets on the Swiss rail site with no problem, and no pre-authorization.

So it's very good news that we can just call and reserve tickets without paying for them in advance. I made our Accademia reservations this morning too!

Gene,

that's exactly what we did: calling the museum directly to speak with a real-live person. And we had our reservation done in 2 minutes with no payment necessary. And yes, when we arrived in Florence we did bypass the line-up and went to another door where the reserved tickets could be picked up.

Gene, you did well to reserve by phone. If you get there and there is little or no line at the ticket window - just buy regular tickets, thus you will not have to pay the reservation fee.
