AC hotel venezia

HI
Thank you for having this site. It is so appreciated. We are going to be in Venice for 4 days in September. Because we have Marriot points we are planning to stay at the AC Hotel Venezia. While we know it is not the sexiest part of Venice :) we are planning to get up early and head out each day to explore Venice. We are not opposed to walking 2-3 miles. I have a few questions if you can help!
1. What is the best way to get from the Marco Polo airport to our hotel?
2. I am trying to figure out how far of a walk it would be to St Marks Basilica, Doge palace and Rialto Bridge.
3. Do you know what the best way to travel around Venice is, water taxis, or Vaporettos? Do you recommend any apps for transportation and walking?
4. Your tours look great! Which ones would you most suggest we do? We are in our early 70's but able to get around.
Thank you so much!

Hi and welcome to the fourm,

  1. The best way is to take bus #5 from the airport to PIazzale Roma in Venice. Your hotel is a short walk.
  2. Use Google maps for walking directions and public transportation directions. It appears the walk is 25-30ish minutes to reach those landmarks, assuming you don’t get “lost.”
  3. Scroll down to Aussie’s helpful answers on public transportation https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/getting-to-venice-from-airport

Current fare for single vaporetto ticket is EUR 9.50.
Vaporetto passes cost:
25 euros for 24 hours
35 euros for 48 hours
45 euros for 72 hours
65 euros for 168 hours

Welcome to the forum.
1. There has been a flurry of this question recently. Use the Search bar near top of this page to find answers about all the options
2. I use Apple Maps to estimate distances. This app shows that it's a 3 minute walk from the Doges' Palace to St Mark's (it's in the same large piazza area.). It's a 7 minute walk from St Mark's to the Rialto Bridge.
3. For me, walking is best and most fun. But you should take the vaporetto at least once for a tour down the Grand Canal, and use it more if your feet get tired.
4. I'd suggest you buy a Rick Steves book and follow one or more of the walking tours listed, depending on your stamina and interests.
Have fun!

Hi, welcome.

Just a word on your number 4 - while we have great travel knowledge among us, none of us is Rick Steves. He provides the website and stands back. Staff from Rick Steves don't hang out here either, except our beloved Webmaster who keeps us on the straight and narrow ever so gently.
