Hello,
My husband and I will be spending Labor Day weekend in the Abruzzo region. We will stay at an agriturismo in Torano Nuovo. It is a somewhat last minute trip from our current home in Greece so, we are looking for ideas in and around the area. Appreciate any ideas to add to the information I am finding in our Lonely Planet guidebook and online.
Cheers!
Abruzzo is beautiful. The Gran Sasso d'Italia, many regional and national parks and preserves, lots of hilltop towns, lakes and seaside. Great regional food, lots of local festivals.
It is near the most recent earthquake zone, so choose your locations based on up-to-date research; L'Aquila is the regional capital and is still recovering from the 2009 quake.
Thank you for the suggestions!
I have researched the earthquake impacts online through the USGS website and have reached out to our agroturismo. Depending on their response we may change tack and head toward Tuscany via train from Rome. I'm researching both areas based on the theory of, "hope for the best and plan for the worst."
Zoe put some trip reports online recently, including for Ascoli Piceno, which is close to your home base.
