A Week to Tour from Marseille

My wife and I are house sitting in Lacoste, France for the months of November and December this year. We plan to arrive in Marseille on or about 10/15, pick up a leased car, and do a bit of touring before we settle in to the house we have been asked to watch.

Would appreciate recommendations for using that week. A friend has spent time in Asolo and environs, but expressed concern that the weather might be dicey when we could visit. Another option would be to spend time on coastal Italy.

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Clarification: Are you talking about Asolo, Italy??? That seems WAY too far to go in a two-week trip, Have you visited southern France before? If not, why not spend your time in all the wonderful places in Provence and surroundings? (Menton, France, is reputed to have some of the warmest winter weather on the coast.)

EDITED to add: I see now you're talking about only one week - so double what I said!

Well I recently spent an entire week IN Marseille and only did one day trip (to Nimes) so you could probably amuse yourself without going anywhere. But there are plenty of places very worth seeing within a couple hours so going to Italy makes no sense. I love Italy (more than France) but if you want to visit Italy I would suggest you travel there, not to Marseille. Of course then you'd need to make your way back to France to get to Lacoste. So if you have two full weeks and want to see Italy, then decide on the areas you want to see, fly somewhere in that region. Then fly to Marseille.

But since you are going to be in France why don't you fly into Marseille as planned and visit that region. Besides Marseille itself, Aix en Provence is close and a wonderful small city. Just a little further is Avignon. I would focus on those two and the small towns between. Here are my photos of the region. See if any of them interest you.

Cassis is an attractive (though touristy in the summer) coastal town near Marseille.

Appreciate the advice received so far. To clarify: we will be house sitting in Lacoste for two months, starting 11/1. We have a huge number of tips for traveling in that region from our house owner. We can only take two or three night trips away from the house, so most of of travel will be quite local. We just want some thoughts on how to spend time from 10/15 to 11/1, and thought parts of Italy would be easiest.

Thanks,

Dick

So you actually have two weeks, not one week, before you are house-sitting?
