We're hoping to take a 2 week vacation in Italy, either in April/May or September/October this year. We plan to fly into Rome, spend the first week seeing Rome(again) and Naples, then then second week in Sicily. What's the best, and cheapest way to go from Naples to Sicily, and return?
We're going to try to get by with carryon luggage for the first time and use city transit. Are there lockers for baggage at the train and bus stations?
Flying would be the best because domestic flights are cheap and you would save so much time. Take Air Italy from Naples to Catania.
Some train stations (not all) have left luggage storage, not lockers because of terrorism. Catania, Palermo and Naples all have left luggage storage.
I haven't traveled from Naples to Sicily. But lockers are hard to find in RR and bus stations. Some have them and some don't. I normally ask about them as soon as I arrive in a station.
If you don't find them, ask about the nearest hotel and go there to leave your bags. Most hotels have a 'left luggage' room.
