I have the opportunity to spend a week in Rimini Italy in March or April. Does anyone have any suggestions as which would be the best time weatherwise? Also, is it possible to go to Milan for a one day trip to see the last supper? Does anyone recommend any day trips? We like seeing old cities and sightseeing. Thanks, S.
Milan is a good haul from Rimini. It's possible but it'll be a looong day. Good side trips would be Ravenna and San Marino.
Rimini to Milan is over 400 miles roundtrip. By the fastest trains, station to station time of 2 hr 45 mins one way, this train appears to require a mandatory reservation; by other trains about 3 hrs 30 mins one way. Add to those times the time to get to the Rimini station, wait for train, then plug in station to station time, then time to get from Milan station to Last Supper or wherever, then time back to Milan station, etc.
In addition to the 400+ mile day trip, advance reservations are mandatory, and you're strictly limited to only 15 minutes with the Last Supper.
I love Rimini! I have been to two weddings there! The later the better season-wise, as winters there are quite cool [INVALID] so choose the latest week in April you can go. As for day trips, go to San Leo and San Marino. Also possible to go to Bologna. I wouldn't worry about Milan, IMHO, been twice, and now I skip it altogethere. If you fly into Milan [INVALID] go ahead and spend the night and enjoy the sites for a day - if you want to see the Last Supper [INVALID] check Rick's book and reserve in advance [INVALID] it can be difficult to get tickets. When we go to Rimini or Riccione now, we fly into Rome and adjust to the time and sightsee for a day or two. I enjoy it much more [INVALID] spend a night or two [INVALID] then go to the North. BTW, on our way "out" we did to to Venice once, checked the bags at the train station then did our departure through Milan. There are also direct flights to JFK out of Venice. Might be a great way to end your vaca! Have fun! Rimini and Riccioni are both Italian summer destinations and can be a little touristy [INVALID] but Italian touristy! There are a lot of good restaurants sea-side as I recall. Make sure the restaurant is owned by Italians and not "foreign." The food is so much better!
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm seeing [INVALID] appear on a lot of posts. Can someone explain what its about?
Marcus: It's caused by a software problem that the host/Rick Steves website has been having, for about a week now. Certain things that you type that could be translated as HTML commands are blocked as INVALID. They're working on it.
