I arrive in Venice on Oct 8 at noon and need to be in Zurich around 1 on the 16th. I'm interested in seeing some of Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre and Milan (roughly in that order of priority) I like a good mix of museums, architechture and outdoors stuff. My plan right now is two nights each place meaning a fully day in each of them. That might be a bit condensed, so I am considering cutting out Milan (or just making it a quick stop since its on the way to Zurich) and adding those extra days to Florence and Cinque Terre (1 each) Thoughts and suggestions?
Have you considered Lake Garda? It's between Venice and Milan. I understand there's good "outdoors stuff" there. It's on the itinerary for our next trip. Happy travels.
It's an ok itinerary, if you cut out Milan. CT is dicey at that time of year. If you get good weather, it's glorious. If it's grey and rainy, it can be a disaster. And it eats up a lot of travel time.
A great stop on the way from Venice to Milan or Florence would be Padova (make a reservation for the Scrovegni Chapel). I'd make Milan the place to change trains. Keep an eye on weather reports for Cinque Terre, and perhaps spend a day in Siena instead.
You might want to check out RS 2012 tours of Italy - his 14 day village tour covers your areas and you could pull up its itinerary to get some ideas about what that tour is doing.
2 nights in each place is not enough and you will spend more time travelling than seeing Italy I'd make Florence a priority and give it at least 3-4 days Venice 2-3 days you can rush through Cinque Terre in a day but not really enough time to experience it
you can rush through Milan highlights in a day
