a week at the lido in venice?

My husband has requested a quiet, relaxing vacation this year. It's unusual but we're thinking of staying in the lido area of Venice for a week in June. Prices seem quite reasonable and the area looks nice from the photos. We could wander the streets to explore at leisure, maybe taking a day trip or 2 to Verona or Padua. However I've read the water there is polluted and the beaches are dirty. It seems like Venice gets a lot of rain too, even in summer. Does this seem like a good idea or not?

These are the reviews/thoughts of other people in the past about the Lido section of Venice (if you want to call it a section of Venice, not everyone would).

I can't recall very many people (reporting in here) who have stayed in the Lido area a week. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad idea, I'm just sayin'....
