A visit to Piedmont wine tours? And, walking tours of Turin?

Hello: We are going to Turin and the wine area near Alba. Any suggestions for wine tours or guides for that area? We also would like to go on a walking tour of Turin if someone can recommend someone. We will be there in September. A suggestion for a decent hotel in Turin would also be nice. Thanks,

We stayed near Alba and drove to a different wine village every day. I don’t recall any wine tours as we did our own. This is such a beautiful and less touristed region.

Oh man! I am envious! It has been 8 yrs since our trip to Piemonte. We were there in late May, and I don’t think I will ever forget the smell of the roses within the vineyards. We did get a private tour guide and LOVED our day exploring. But also, I still remember a fabulous wine tasting (not prescheduled) at https://laviteturchese.it/ in Barolo. We got a plate of meat and cheese and they taught us about the great regions of Barolo and Barbaresca. Really really welcoming and educational… and delicious! Have a great time!

Strongly recommend wine tour with Matteo of Langaround: https://langaround.com/

We worked with him for a full day wine tour in summer 2019. He put together an awesome itinerary complete with three wineries and lunch. He was a great driver, very familiar with the US, and would be happy to adapt to your preferences / requirements. Good luck and enjoy!

Thank for the information. I had gotten Matteo's name from someone else and have contacted him. One of the things we are considering is to travel from the Piedmont area over to Marseille. Is there a reasonable train service or other way to get there? So far I have not found this. We could always rent a car, but picking it up in Italy and dropping it in France (Bordeaux) is pretty expensive.

Define reasonable, if it's about time and changes there is no way to avoid the Alps and... railway nationalism.

You can go from Turin to Lyon with Trenitalia in four hours. Check on SNCF how to go from Lyon to Marseille. Or get a car In Lyon and drive south.

Same with the southern route, take one of the 3 direct trains from Turin to Ventimiglia that do the run in 4 hours, Then get on a SNCF train. One headed to Marseille, Nice-Ville or to any french city near the border with a car rental office.
