A tired question - Florence restaurant recommendations - cheap - moderate price. Thanks!

I saw some other threads on this, a particularly good one a while back. I thought I could retrieve it easily. I found some previous threads, but not the one I was looking for. So, please help me and this time I promise to write the recommendations down. Grazie!

I don't know if it qualifies as cheap-moderate, but we are moderately cheap and absolutely loved Hostaria Il Desco on Villa del Terme. This place was recommended to us by the famous Monty at the Hotel Alessandra. I have learned to ask the guy at the front desk of our hotel (or the concierge at a more expensive place) for casual restaurant recommendations in a specfied price range.

I really liked Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco just across the Arno. It was recommended to me by some locals and we really enjoyed it.

I disagree Julie. A guidebook about the whole country does not have many listings in each chapter and some are expensive. Better to read a book just about Florence, which also would have information about Tuscan cuisine, in addition to that one.

Mama Gina's on Borgo San Jacopo just across the Ponte Vecchio

You didn't specify what you consider "cheap - moderate price" so it's difficult to know what your criteria are. I'd also suggest having a look at the RS Italy guidebook, as there are good recommendations listed there. A few restaurants that come to mind.....

I've dined at all of those, and thought the food was great, so I have no hesitation in recommending them.

I've recommended this place to many & they've never disappointed--Ciro & Sons on via Giglio. Great pizza, antipasti, pastas. They have all the Florentine specialties but also southern Italian dishes. And they make anything on the menu gluten-free upon request.

We loved Trattoria Il Sostanza located between train station and the Arno. There are two seatings in the evening and a reservation is a must. It has been run by the same family for ages--wonderful food.

Our favorite -- cheap, tasty, bare-bones Self Service Leonardo near the Duomo (see RS Italy or Florence book) You don't go for the atmosphere, though.

I cannot recommend the Golden View restaurant enough. It has a great view of the Ponte Vecchio bridge and is very reasonable in price. I found the food to be very good. If you don't have a reservation, you will not get a table by the window. When we ate there, it was 6:30 and they sat us next to the window with a great view of the bridge. We did have to promise to leave at 8:30 as the table was reserved then.

I was there a few years ago and went with friends how always eat at this place
Ristorante la Maremma
Via Verdi 16/r Firenze

The prices were not expensive and looked like it was all locals with some families.
I thought the food was great and the prices were less than $10 for dinner items.

Here are two places we enjoyed:
La Mangiatoia Trattoria Pizzeria Rosticceria - located at Piazza San Felice 8-9/R near the Palazzo Pitti
Gustapizza - located at Via Maggio 46R near Piazza Santo Spririto

Just returned from Florence. A few new discoveries that I will return to, all within a couple of blocks of each other in the Oltrarno (walkable from the tourist center). NOTE: Make a reservation a few days ahead as the locals fill these gems.
- Trattoria Casalinga: Simply prepared, rustic transport to gastronomic heaven. Run like a mom and pop, but busy. If you do to no other place, make it here.
- 4 Leoni - A bit of romance and more upscale without being pretentious.
- Osteria Antica - Casual and energetic. Right on the square.

Auguri!

Thank you to all for your responses! I am either going to have to prune down my choices or stay longer in Florence. Unfortunately, I cannot stay longer in Florence - so I need to prune. I have eaten at Leonardo's before a couple of times. I want to go to a few new places. I have eaten twice at Trattoria Antellesi which is a good choice. I will start "researching" and pruning. Thanks again!

We just visited Italy in April and had some great meals but the best thing we ate was the Pear Ravioli at Trattoria 4 Leoni in Florence, close to the Pitti Palace so it's across the Arno - It was recommended by Hotel la Scaletta) - Four of us ate with salad , entree a bottle of wine and I think it was 110 Euros. We all thought their food was very good and they have a little outdoor patio. I thought the prices were very resonable. Make reservations if you can, they were able to squeeze us in. It's just off via de Guicciardini, about a block down a little side street.
