A Special Lady & A Special Day

I’m taking my mom & her two sisters to Venice, Italy (aka The Golden Girls) next month to celebrate my mom’s 80th Birthday.

I’m looking for a different place to have a cocktail on her Birthday before dinner that offers a beautiful view & ambiance.

Any suggestions will grateful.

Grazie,
Scott

Can't vouch for it personally, but people always talk about Harry's Bar. Your "Golden Girls" might find it a thrill.

Thanks to both of you. I just emailed The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel to find out about just having cocktails.

Here's a vote for Stephen's suggestion of Hotel Molino Stucky.

My suggestion - Nico's on the Zattere. You'll be sitting over the water, watching all the nautical endeavours that keep Venice afloat and on an even keel. Water taxis, maybe a police boat or fire boat blasting past, perhaps a cruise liner (wash your mouth out, Peter), a Fedex branded delivery boat perhaps.

Order Negronis all round. They'll blow your head off. Sure, Ern Hemmingway and his drinking buddy Scott Fitzgerald patronised Harry's. Unfortunately many people still think it is the place to be, and think that Bellinis are all the go.

I would never enter a bar that I could not see inside before I entered. And you can't see inside Harry's bar.

The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel emailed me back and said no problems with just a cocktail or two by the water. That’s where I’ll be heading. Cheers!
