A room with a view in Florence?

Looking for a charming, friendly, hotel (with a view) for around $200-250 per night for a double. Any recommendations? I am, quite frankly, overwhelmed with reading reviews at tripadvisor.

Lisa, this one may cost less than you want to spend, but try looking at Hotel Medici, just a couple of blocks from the Duomo. If the room doesn't have a view, you can be very pleased with the wraparound views from the 6th floor terrace (but don't book a room on the 6th floor since they open onto the terrace). Tripadvisor exhausts me, too.

Do you have the RS book for either Italy or Florence/Tuscany? They are loaded with lodging recommendations that have been vetted by Rick's team and his followers. Happy travels.

What kind of view are you looking for? The Duomo? the Arno? a particular piazza? Or just something nice?

I loved that movie...referring to A Room with a View of course. I saw it before I actually went to Florence and would love to see it again! I can't help you on where to stay though since I was with a tour and we stayed outside of Florence.

If you would consider an apartment try Florence vrbo #33401. It is a block from the Baptistry and has a top-floor deck with an incredible view of the Duomo Dome. We stayed there for a week three years ago and found it to be a great apartment with a fantastic location.

Hi - I stayed at Soggiorno Battistero two years ago and had a fabulous view of the Duomo and Baptistery - the only disadvantage to this B & B was the fact that I had to climb a lot of stairs to get there, but the staircase was very wide with landings where you could pause and catch your breath. There were double windows so I never had a problem with noise from the piazza. I had a single room that was very reasonably-priced - I think the doubles are around 100 euros. The owners, Kelly and Luca, were very kind - Kelly is American, so no language barrier to be concerned about. Make sure you request a room with a view of the Duomo since I am not sure if all of the rooms have the same view.

Loggiato dei Serviti, room 12. 2 story loft room, 2 beds, 2 bath, living room, views of the square. We looked forward to coming home every night. It was near the duomo and David. We paid 95 euro at the end of Nov, but it was given to us as an upgrade as there were many vacancies at that time.

The hotel in which I've stayed in Florence is Hotel California. Your room may or may not have a view, but the location is fabulous. You are just down the street from the Duomo, so it's a great view once you step outside, even if your specific room does not have one (though you could probably request). It was reasonable and had a filling breakfast. We enjoyed our stay.

On my RS tour in 2010 we stayed at a lovely hotel near the Ponte Vecchio-Torre Guelfa Hotel. The rooms didn't have a great view, but they had a medieval tower with a sitting area at the top with 360 degree views of the city-just outstanding. They served drinks at 'cocktail' time and my favorite memory of Florence is sitting up there drinking pro secco with my daughter and looking over the old city.
