A relaxing place around FCO

I am trying to figure out plans for my last two nights in Italy in May. We will be arriving at FCO on a flight from Catania at about 8:40pm, will need to stay in the area 2 nights, and then we fly out from FCO at 11:30am. I would like a nice, relaxing area. It does not need to be confined to the immediate airport area. Any suggestions would be appreciated-- just an area, town, or even a specific hotel if you know one. I'm open to leeway, but my limit is about $175 per night on the hotel. We will be in Rome earlier in the trip, so I do not want to go into the city-- I want to stay in the outskirts or countryside for these two nights. Tivoli is out since we will be day-tripping there on our earlier stay in Rome.

I was thinking about spending the night around Ostia or immediately around the airport and taxiing over to Ostia Antica for part of the day. But I can't seem to find a hotel that would be within walking distance of some good restaurants and gets good reviews. I don't particularly want to rent a car for these two nights since I will have just finished driving all over Sicily.

Is there a little town within taxiing distance of FCO that has a hotel with nice views of the countryside or Mediterranean?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks, Steve. I'll check out that link. I wouldn't mind going back into Rome for those two nights, but my parents will also be traveling and they want a relaxing (for them that means non-city) place to recuperate before the long flight home after they will have done Milan, Florence, Rome, and traveling with extended family through Sicily.

So any ideas for relaxing (area, town, or even a specific hotel) around FCO or Ostia, please let me know.

The trouble with large cities is they tend to swallow up the surrounding area. Normally I'd recommend Orvieto but that's a bit out of the way for what you want. What about staying in the Trastevere neighborhood? It's still Rome but I found it to have a distinctly different energy.

In addition to what Steve suggested, I'd send a note to Ron in Rome and see if he has any ideas. http://www.roninrome.com/

What does everybody think about some place like Frascati or Marino? It's a quarter of the way around Rome, but there seem to be some relaxing hotels there. How bad and expensive would it be to taxi from FCO to there on a Thursday night (9:00pm) and from there back to FCO on Saturday morning (9:00am)? Is it too far to day trip to Ostia Antica from there?

If not that area, how about Bracciano? I am still just trying to find a place for relaxation. Thanks!

After some more research, I think I've settled on the Seccy Hotel in Fiumicino. While it's not in the country, with a view of the sea or countryside, it looks pleasant, comfortable, relaxing, and is apparently within walking distance (a couple blocks) of numerous restaurants lining the river. It is also only 9km from Ostia Antica, so a taxi trip there and back shouldn't be too bad either. If any of you has stayed at the Seccy Hotel, please let me know your thoughts.

I recently got back from my trip. I stayed at the Seccy Hotel and it was great! Roomy, clean, nice, friendly, family-run, great A/C. It's only 5-10 minutes from the terminal at FCO. I wouldn't recommend someone stay anywhere else around FCO after having been there. There are plenty of restaurants and pizzarias within walking distance, too. It was everything the good reviews said it would be. I highly, highly recommend it.
