A Pope Question

Hello fellow travelers. My family and I will be visiting Rome next March, this will be our 2nd time there and my wife would like to see the Pope during one of his speeches to the crowd or a mass. How do I find out if he is having one, are there tickets that we would have to purchase, and what time should we arrive if its during a Sunday speech? Thank you very much.

I believe Sunday talk is at noon, just show up. If you can't get tickets for Wednesday's audience, they have standing room which is as close as the last row of seats. When we were there last February it wasn't too crowded. Imagine the configuration of the Papal route as an inverted T. The bottom of the T would have seating on the one side and the standing room on the other. So, if you get there early enough you would be in the first row against the barrier. We sat in the last row so we just turned around and saw Him up close twice - He goes around 2x..
Just 2 other hints, when we went through security with our tickets, they had many extra. You can just ask. Also, He was to come out at 10:00 but we were told he always goes early (9:30 for our group). We arrived at 8:30 and only had to wait one hour and left by 11:00. A lovely, spiritual morning.
