A few observations, Part II

Continued from previous post: The website that booked our seaview room in Manarola said it was only a 10-minute walk from the center of town. It would have been more accurate to say a 10-minute climb, with stairs, inclines, rest stops, switchbacks, more stairs, more inclines and more stairs. We were literally at the top of the town, looking down on the church steeple. If we both didn't work out on elliptical trainers at the gym, I don't think we could have made it. But the view was magnificent and the gelato delicious. I lost four pounds and she lost two. An iPad, even the WiFi-only one, is a good thing to have. A $29 connection kit, if you don't already have one, lets you copy your day's photos from your camera to the iPad for backup and emailing to friends. I was surprised at how many iPads I saw. Bon Voyage!

I enjoyed reading your observations! Thanks for taking time to post some great suggestions! I agree that an iPad is a helpful tool for travel. We were in Italy this spring and also used it for checking out restaurant reviews, hotel reservations, and making notes about the trip.

Your climb to the hotel made me laugh. The girl at the TI in Pitlochry, Scotland, told us that the B&B was just a "hop, skip, and a jump" away. Turns out we had to hop, skip, and jump straight uphill.
