A few days around Sorrento/Positano, Italy

My wife and I (active 70 yr olds) are on an Odessey tour next fall, ending with a 3-day stay touring Sorrento, Capri, and Amalfi. We are extending 3 more days. We’d appreciate any suggestions about possible towns in the area in which to stay, specific things to do and/or see, etc. We will fly out of Naples…. Thank you!!

Go to Capri but stay over a couple of nights. We enjoyed staying at Hotel Minerva near Punta Tragara for three nights.. Sea views.
We did not care for Positano, crowded and filled with designer shops. Have lunch there, that’s enough. The only place on the Amalfi Coast we liked was Ravello, way up high with awesome views.
And, of course, Naples! We enjoyed staying in the very nice Chiaia area near the waterfront.

The above Searches should include helpful info.

Be advised that moving around the AC is time-consuming and chaotic. There is no fast nor efficient manner of travel. Shoulder seasons are also very crowded . Being aware of the realities on the ground will make your trip more enjoyable.

Have a great trip!

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 young kids and a day trip to Positano was more than enough for this very active family! It’s a gorgeous town though and has a nice waterfront but definitely consider it is vertical. We stayed in Sorrento which was very easy to navigate. So was our day trip to Amalfi.

Last May my husband and I spent 4 nights in Sorrento, 2 nights in Positano. We really enjoyed our B&B in Positano, however, the entire town is vertical (our B&B was 170 steps to our room alone and 400m vertical to the beach). Positano is also very pricey. We liked having Sorrento as a base. It is convenient to take day trips to Capri, Pompeii, and the rest of the Amalfi coast.

We look a wonderful tour of the Amalfi Coast with Wine Tour Amalfi Coast. It is run by a Sommelier, Daniele di Palma. They picked us up at our hotel in Positano, took us to Amalfi, wine tasting with lunch in the hills, then Ravello. It so happened that our entire time on the Amalfi coast is rained, so having a guide to drive us and take us to see some outstanding vistas was such a treat. Daniele and our driver Salvatore were so welcoming and charming that we immediately felt at home.

Because of the rain, we couldn't get over to Capri, so we explored more of Sorrento and this was such a blessing. We took a food tour from Gourmet Girl Italy outside the downtown area and found some wonderful local restaurants. Our guide Vanessa was so amazing at helping us uncover additional places to visit in Sorrento.

Have a great time.

SandyO, we were in the AC at the same time May 2023, and also experience the heavy rains. Your tips should be very helpful for other folks experiencing dismal weather in an outdoor- oriented place. Thanks
