A day in venice itinerary!!

Hi there
Me and my friend will be in venice in june.
We are arriving at marco polo airport at 8.30am and we are just there for the day before we take the train to La Spezia in the late afternoon.
I was wondering on how easy it is to get around venice?
Is it easy to get a taxi from the airport to the train station? We will have luggage and i have been told we can store our luggage at the train station in lockers , which will be great as we can just collect again before our train that night.
So i guess my main questions are..is that correct information? How do we get between the airport & train station? And what would be a good itinerary for the day leaving from the tr.station? We are not toooooo fussed on seeing lotsbof art etc but would like to take a gondola ride , have a nice lunch somewhere & explore the streets and the st marks basillica
Thanks in advance!
Chloe :)

This has helped a lot
Do you have any idea
Of how much these trips are?

Check out the vaporetto pass for the day; otherwise each ride is €7.50. I don't know the cost to get from the airport to Venezia.

You've not allotted yourself much time at all to see one of the world's most beautiful and unique cities...much nicer than then CT in my opinion. You have 3 options from Airport -> Train Station
1) Alilaguna - slow moving boat
2) Private Water Taxi - fast boat
3) Bus (Airport->Piazzale Roma)

Just to clarify, there is a left luggage area in the train station at Venice, but you leave your luggage with an attendant and most likely they will make a copy of your passport to verify who you are when you pick your luggage back up. It will not be a locker. I believe most of the lockers disappeared awhile ago for security reasons.

Otherwise, you are really short changing one of the most wonderful cities of the world. I hope the rest of your trip is not this fast paced.

Hi,
My husband and I will be visiting Italy for the first time in April. We have 2 full days in Venice, and while there's no changing our itinerary now (plane/train tickets are already purchased and set in stone), we'd really like to spend more time in Venice.

But with your Venice itinerary so tight, your best bet is to 1: get to the train station via the airport bus or a taxi and drop off your luggage, and then 2: take the vaporetto straight to St. Mark's Square. The farthest you can go via the airport bus or a taxi is Piazzale Roma (near the train station), which is on the western tip to the island; St. Mark's is on the eastern tip. So you'd then have to get another form of transportation to get over to St. Mark's Square since you said you want to see St. Mark's Basilica. Your other to-do list items (lunch, gondola, explore the streets) can all happen near St. Mark's.

(Can you tell I've looked at the Venice map about 500 times in preparation for my trip!?)

When we visit Venice, we are planning on taking the airport bus just because our hotel is not too far from Piazzale Roma, so we'll just walk to our hotel after getting off the airport bus.

Have fun!

Just a clarification. In Venice, the airport bus or land taxi can take you to Piazzale Roma, the bus station in Venice itself, or to Venezia Mestre, the train station on the mainland. They cannot take you to Venezia Santa Lucia, the train station in Venice itself.

However, from Piazzale Roma, you can then take a vaporetto number 1 down the Grand Canal. In fact, it's better to board at Piazzale Roma, since it's the stop before the Venezia SL train station, so you get on before the vaporetto has filled up with all the people getting off trains.
