Hi!
We just spontaneously booked a Mediterranean cruise and will be stopping one day in Civitavecchia.
We have already visited Rome and don't see the need to try to rush there and back for our ship's evening departure, so we are wondering if it is worth just spending the day in Civitavecchia? (We aren't generally cruise people, so we aren't used to having just a few hours someplace and having to depart)
We would love to spend our day enjoying nice scenery, tasting good food and maybe even taking a hike if possible. Has anyone spent time in the Civitavecchia area?
We would take a short train ride somewhere if necessary and are pretty adventurous.
We aren't sure being on a tour bus all day (ship excursion) is our thing, so we are wondering if we can plan our own adventure for the day. With only a few days to plan, we are looking for any suggestions.
