Hello, I am planning a trip to Italy and Sicily and wanted to gather opinions from travelers who have been down this road before, so to speak. My wife and I have been to Italy once before, but never farther south than Rome. This time, our trip will include time in Naples and Sicily. Part of the trip to Sicily will involve a stop in my wife's ancestral home town, Castelvetrano. I obviously have a lot of research to do, but my initial questions are:
We only have four nights available for Sicily, so I'm guessing an air flight out of Naples to Palermo is the most expedient way to get from A to B. Is my hunch correct on this? I have no idea if rail is even a possibility.
I'm not familiar with the public transportation in Sicily. Would a route that includes a side trip to Castelvetrano work best with a rental car? Is a rental car even a good idea in Sicily? Of course we would want to visit two or three other great sites in Sicily, but our first stop after Palermo would most likely be Castelvetrano.
I'm sure there are multiple ways to go about this, but if anyone can give me insight, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
