A couple of transportation questions...

What is the current fixed-rate cab fare from Rome airport to the city center? And, is it still necessary to validate your train ticket at the yellow machine before boarding? When I was last in Rome a couple of years ago the taxi rate had just gone up to 45 Euros, and last September, while in Italy, I was told that validating the train ticket was no longer necessary.

Scott, despite all the efforts of the taxi guild, the fixed-rate fare from FCO airport to the center of Rome (staying inside the Fixed Taxi Rate Zone) is still currently €40. In addition, any time you ride on a train without a seat reservation - like a Regionale or commuter train - you must validate your ticket. All the trains departing from the FCO Train Station are Regionale trains, thus you must vaildate your tickets on the Leonardo Express or the FR1 Metropolitan. If you bought a ticket on a high-speed train from say Roma Termini Station to Florence and you had a seat reservation, you would NOT have to validate your ticket.
