A couple of questions re:Village Italy 14-day tour

For anyone who has taken this tour - would a roll-on or carry-on bag be more useful in the smaller villages? Also, is the dress a little more casual than the tours which hit the big cities? Any other advice or comments welcome!! Thanks!

I took this tour in 2006. I would say at least 80% of the people had roller bags. There was a discussion recently about roller vs backpack and I think the same pros and cons applies no matter where you go. It is really your preference (I take a roller bag).

I would say that dress was the same as all RS tours. Mostly casual and limited by what fits in a carry-on sized bag.

It is a great trip. Have a great time.

I went on this tour in April/May 2008. I agree that rollie bag or carry on is a personal preference, but the key is pack light in case you have to climb a lot of stairs or walk some distance with your bag. As far as how to dress, I haven't noticed any differences in village vs city Italy (just more variety in city). The key is to wear comfortable, easily packable clothes that coordinate to give you more choices. And remember to include 'appropriate' clothes for the churches you will visit.

My husband and I took the Village Italy in April 2008. We have taken 3 RS tours & Village Italy is still the favorite.
We use the RS rollon bag. My husband is thinking of switching to a backpack. I don't think I could get a full backpack up onto my back without help, so I'll stick with the rollon.
We all wore slacks during the day, but a few ladies had a skirt with them. They were mostly the kind you roll and twist. I didn't want to have dressy shoes in the suitcase so i stuck with slacks. You can have a colorful blouse to wear with the slacks at night. Either way, you will see each others clothes over & over. And even in the cities that we have been to,there isn't a lot of real dressing up. You will have a great time, and if you get Lisa, tell her Mimi & Dwayne said hello. If you want some packing ideas, PM me.
Have a great trip!
