A couple of nights in Capri?

Hi lovely forum members, as our trip approaches I’m considering reducing our 7 nights in Positano and spending the last 2 on Capri (staying early Oct).

We’ve done a day trip to Capri many years ago and my memories of it were wonderful but so rushed to ensure we were back for the last ferry! There’s so much we want to see and do there that we missed last time, including a boat tour and Blue Grotto, and I’m thinking these are best done early before the daytrippers arrive.

So would you recommend we stay on the island or are we better off just doing 2 separate day trips from Positano? My main concern is if we stay there those last 2 nights, how difficult / long it will be getting from there to Rome where we will spend our final 4 nights before flying home.

Note prefer not to spend our first 2 nights there as we’ll be flying in from Sicily to Naples, then onto the A/C.

Do it! There are direct ferries (1 hour) to Naples from Capri, and it's a quick cab ride to the train station for the train to Rome.

Thank you both. I didn’t know about the daily ferry that operates between Capri and Naples. Can you tell me which is the one that operates daily regardless of the weather?

New ferry schedules take effect sometime around October, so you can expect fewer. There may be more cancellations because of bad weather/wave action. (I have not been to Capri off-season like this.) Some businesses might close down in the shoulder season. It is extremely likely that you cannot ferry between Positano and Capri starting sometime in October. Note also that Positano requires smaller vessels.

I think you already know how "far" Positano is from Rome. Capri is slightly farther. Note that you can (at least in summer) ferry to Naples, which saves almost an hour on the highway, for 15 or 20 more minutes on the water.

Perhaps on your last trip they did not yet have Frecciarossa trains that did Rome-Naples in just over an hour? Advance purchase discount tickets can have no exchanges, no refunds, no changes.

If your proposed stay is in early October, the schedules won't have changed yet. That shouldn't happens til the end of the month.

I’ll be booking accommodation in advance, so if we cannot get to or from Capri as planned due to bad weather, then we would just have to adjust our plans and organise last minute accommodation - not ideal but doable. I think I was just after input on the likelihood of that happening vs. the benefits we’d gain by staying on the island i.e. is the risk worth it? Thanks everyone!!
