A/C Needed For Cinque Terre in Summer?

... in mid-July?

or just open a window at night?

We stayed in the Cinque Terre in July of last year. If you have an ocean breeze, you would probably be OK. We did not - we had a room that was a short distance from the ocean and it did have A/C. We had a hard time getting the owner to turn it on, but he finally did. We did not have a cheap room either. Power is expensive there and they don't like to use it. It would have been a hot night without it. We are from Arkansas and know what heat is. It will be 98F here today and 100 by Friday. Thanks - Bill

A/C, like elevators, are not that common in the CT. If you want A/C, you will have to look for it. There are nice evening breezes.

It was VERY hot during the day in our room but we weren't there much. It was very pleasant in the evenings and we had no trouble sleeping. Now, we are from NE Texas so I can't speak for someone living further north.

We stayed at Gianni Franzi and spent a lot of time on their wonderful, private balcony overlooking the sea. It was shaded and cool with the sea breezes.

Hi, Connie, can you comment a little more about your stay at Gianni Franzi? How was your room? I have a reservation there for August.

We've had a cool summer so far this year. I hope by telling you I won't jinx our luck. It is about 10 degrees fairenhite less this week than it would be same time last year. If the weather holds I would guess that it won't be too hot.

I’m not necessarily a fan of wasting energy on excessive cooling like we do in the U.S., but I was in Manarola in early July, and it was very hot both day and night. It’s hard to predict weather anywhere and nothing is static, but I would recommend seeking out lodging with air conditioning when visiting the CT in summer just to be safe. Check out La Torretta in Manarola at www.torrettas.com

Number 1 on tripadvisor…this is a very nice but reasonably-priced hotel with private balcony views of the sea. Since you asked about AC, it will freeze you out of the room if you wish to set it that low.
