I just returned from a trip to Puglia and Basilicata and was intrigued by the title "Murder in Matera" by Helene Stampiski. Most of the action takes place in Bernalda and Pisticci, but if you have driven through the area or visited the city of Matera itself you will will recognize much. In addition to bringing back memories, this book paints a picture of what life was like in the region towards the turn of the 20th century. Not for the faint of heart!
