9 days on ground Rome-Milan Airport

I’ve tried and tried to plot out my itinerary but am stuck - had my heart set on Cinque Terre but hubby has never been to Italy so I feel obligated to do
Rome land at 7;45 am Sunday October 5th
Two nights. Free Sunday walking around - Spanish steps Trevi pantheon and travestere dinner
Vatican and colosseum on Monday
Florence (my fav) 3 nites tues wed Thursday
wth day trip to wine country -
Bologna -for the food! - one night/Friday
Venice - can’t decide between one or two nights ? Sat and Sunday
Monday ?!?
Fly out of Milan 10:30 Am Tuesday 15th
Not really jazzed about seeing Milan (work in NYC) have brought fashion and restaurants. Should we take train to Verona? Brescia? And taxi Tuesday early straight airport Any guidance appreciated.

Would love to do a Night in Tuscany and stay at a winery/farm house. It is our 25th anniversary and I don’t want to spend alll my time sightseeing museums and churches. (As of today I only have one night in Rome. Have a hotel to check in by 12 Sunday and our four pm Monday after coliseum then high speed train to Florence at 5:20

Venice is not a place to try to blitz. If you try a quick visit, there's a significant chance you'll join the group of people who don't like Venice, because you'll spend the entire time caught up in throngs of other visitors around San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. You need time in Venice to see something other than the places everyone considers must-sees.

I think you're trying to cover too much ground in too few days. I'd drop Venice (the geographical outlier on this itinerary) and slow things down. People go to Milan primarily for The Last Supper and the Duomo. At this point it might even be too late to get a spot on a tour that includes The Last Supper, so you may want to minimize your time in Milan. The Duomo is open until 7 PM.

Are you sure you only want one day for sightseeing in Rome?

With a 10:30 flight to the US from Milan, I would absolutely spend the previous night in Milan or someplace closer with good airport transport options. You should be at the airport 3 hours ahead of the flight.
