9 day itinerary in Tuscany

Hello, I am beginning to start putting together our 9 day trip to Tuscany. As I am just starting, I would love any feedback or advice you have. Overall, we are looking for a relatively leisurely, and romantic trip, that will provide some culture and history as well. Also, any advice you have on travelling, and places/ cities to use as a good base would be very helpful.

  1. ) 1 day Lucca 2.) 1 day Cinque Terre? 3.) 2 days in Florence
4.) 2 days in Chianti 5.) 1 day in Sienna
  2. )2 days Val d'orcia

Thanks,
Jason

Six places in 9 days ( nights?) is not my idea of 'leisurely'.

Does the 9 days include or exclude your arrival and departure days?

Perhaps 2 days CT, 4 in Florence ( day trip to Lucca) and the final 3 in Siena or Val d Orcia and do day trips as you desire.

Staying in 6 different places in 9 days is a lot of time spent 'transiting' for limited 'being there' time

We spent nine nights at an agriturismo about ten miles south of Florence in July 2017, staying at one location for our entire trip and having a rental car. We were on the go every day: 3 days Florence, 2 days Siena (had planned on one but loved Siena so much that we went back!), 1 day each for Lucca, Greve and surrounds, and Volterra/San Gimgiano area. Staying at one quiet spot kept the trip much more relaxing than would moving every night or two! If we were to re-do our trip we would split the nights between Florence and one other location, likely a countryside agriturismo. Great advice from our host made driving/parking in Florence quite easy compared to most experiences I've read on this Forum! BUT we would have enjoyed being able to go back to a Florence hotel for some down time during the heat of the afternoon; we also missed out on early morning/late evening strolls in Florence to just explore side streets and neighborhoods. If it's romance and relaxation you want, just limit the number of locations for overnight stays and work out some day trips. You'll be in Italy! Enjoy...we can't wait to return!

Thank you both! Your advice was really helpful. I think I am going to scratch out the CT trip. I also, will combine Lucca, and Florence, and stay in one place while visiting them both... I think I will then use that extra day to spend more time in Chianti or val d’orcia

My wife and I spent a month in Florence in March and rented an apartment. We hit every city you mentioned but Val d'orcia. I would get an apt in Florence and travel to your desired destinations by train or rent a car. Renting a car is no problem. I have a great recommendation for a website to find a good apt if interested.
