cruise ship excursions

My cruise ship stops at Bari. Should I sign up for the escorted walking tour offered by the ship or can I easily get from the ship to wherever the walking tour might begin & do one on my own as I often do in other places?

Joe - you'll get much better information on cruise stops if you visit www.cruisecritic.com. There are pages on each specific port, as well as forums for the different regions cruise ships stop. You can even join the roll call for your particular sailing and see if anyone is arranging a private tour.

Joe, Yes you can do a walking tour of the town on your own. However, we were there last month and took a ship excursion that included a walking tour of the town and a trip to Matera that included lunch. Google Matera and see if it is of interest to you and then see if your cruise offers one like ours. Matera is a UNESCO Heritage Site is awsome (as much as I dislike the word). TC
