8 Days - Split it or stay ony in Sardnia

I am going on a one month adventure with my three daughters. (single mom with two teens and an 11 year old). We arrive in Naples on the 18th June at 9:15 pm. I had heard that Sperlonga (Hotel Aurora) is a total treat and a great place to rest and recover for a few days. I also have an AMAZING home swap on the beach in Sardinia until June 26. (Then we are heading to Barcelona for 5 days). For information, last summer we did a total Italy tour and saw Florence, Rome, Tuscany and Amalfi coast in 12 days so we don't need to "see" those places while in the region. The only BIG thing we missed was Pompeii Three questions: 1. Should I split the trip, and invest in lovely hotel? (it's two hours from Naples to the hotel. I assume because arriving at late with the girls I should splurge on car service to Sperlonga)? Should I say 3 or 4 days? 2. Or, should I see if I can get a late flight right to Sardinia and just relax there for 9 days. (seems too long, perhaps) It is also free accomodation (which I love, of course!) 3. Or, is there someplace closer to Naples like sperlonga but not as far away. We will have to take 1/2 on both ends to travel to the airport, of course. Although, seems like a train from Sperlonga back to Naples better during the day than expensive car service. Appreciate all of your feedback! Marni

I don't get why you are flying to Naples if you are not staying in that area at all. Even Sperlonga is half way between Rome and Naples, therefore you could have flown to Rome and reach Sperlonga even more easily than from Naples. I would stay in the Naples area (Sorrento?) for a couple of days, since you are flying there anyway. You could visit Pompeii, Capri, Ischia island (beautiful beaches), Naples itself. Then go to Sardinia. If you are going immediately to Sardinia I honestly don't understand why you bought a ticket to Naples.

I know. I was working with a travel agent and she made the arrangement. I was under the impression it was an hour away -- and since I made on ticket on air miles I can't change it now :( I have been to capri (didn't like it, particularly) but perhaps Sorrento would be nice. Thanks for your help! Marni

Most travel agents are useless. You get better info online here or in any of many other travel sites than you'll ever get from travel agents. They just want to make a quick buck on commissions without spending any time doing any research. Some acquaintances of mine went to a travel agency up in Chico where they live. After spending a few days in Rome, they wanted to go from downtown Rome to Florence and the stupid agent put them on an Alitalia flight from Fiumicino to Florence. Any novice traveler on this board would have known that the cheapest and fastest way would be with a train.

I already changed to go to the Ischia Island and found a fabulous hotel with ALL amazing reviews on Trip Advisor! I am so grateful for this forum and plan to use it relentlessly! Now, trying to find a home exchange in Berlin, and deciding between Corsica, Majorca or Canaries! Best Roberto to you!
