8 days in Tuscany--an itinerary?

Hello,
We will have eight or nine days in Italy in July. We'll arrive in and depart from Florence. We've been to Florence before and so do not feel the need to visit; we'll probably sleep there the night before we leave. We will be traveling by train. My wife would like to visit the Cinque Terra and I would like to see Assisi and Lucca. Anything else is up for grabs. Any ideas on route and number of days in each? Any other recommendations of places to visit near these places (remember the train)?
Thanks.

Refer to this map http://www.google.com/maphp?hl=en&tab=wl&q=Note that Assisi is southeast of Florence and Lucca and the CT are in the opposite direction--so you'll have to first go in one direction, then back through Florence, go in the other direction, then finally back to Florence. The Tuscany towns on the main rail lines are basically the ones you've listed, plus Pisa and Siena. You probably don't have time to do them all, with 9 days and at least one of those used for arrival and/or departure day, that leaves 8 at the most. You might as well get the worst back-tracking out of the way at the beginning (?):starting in Florenceto Assisiback to Florence (I think by rail you have to all the way back to Florence, maybe not, I haven't done it that way)bus to Siena (if you decide to add Siena)train to CTtrain back to Luccatraina to Florence for departureYou may not have time for all of that. And click the link to the map to note how much back-tracking is involved in trying to hit the destinations in your itinerary.
