8 Days in Sicily........any advice?

My wife and I are ending a 7 week trip in Europe in Sicily . We have 8 days without plans. We arrive in October and we like beaches,
history, great food and pretty sites. We arrive in Palermo via ferry and fly out of Palermo back home to California
We will have a rental car.
Please help with quaint towns, sites and home base.

Perhaps use the RS Sicily tour itinerary as a rough guide or inspiration to create your 8 day experience

Small, quaint towns (not undiscovered, mind you): Erice (near Trapani, west of Palermo); Cefalu (east of Palermo, but it's a beach destination and I don't know how lively it will be in Oct); and Ragusa, Noto, Modica, Scicli (all 4 west of Siracusa). In the interior, Enna and Piazza Armerina are attractive.

I don't do beaches, so someone else needs to help out there. Be sure you know what you'll be dealing with in terms of rocks vs. sand.

I'd start with a day or two in Palermo, without a car, including going to Monreale by bus (traffic is horrible and parking is probably worse). Then head south to Agrigento, where I believe the best beaches are - and the Greek temples. Stop to see the temples at Segesta and Selinunte. You could spend a day or two on the west coast - Trapani and Erice.
