8 Days Florence, Tuscan Hill Towns, Rome

Hello!

My husband and I arrive to Florence at 10:45am on a Sunday from Paris, and we will be leaving out of Rome 9 days later at 6:30pm.

We are trying to organize our time and how long to stay in each place. In Florence we want to see statue of David, eat and see some other sights, but are not interested in tons of museum time. We want to see Siena, and drink wine and eat food in the Tuscan hill towns, and then in Rome we want to see all most of the touristy historical sights. Eating and drinking is our thing, and my husband and I like historical sights vs museums.

Any suggestions on how many days to stay where to make the most of our trip? We realize we might be reaching and might be a little ambitious, but we are usually go go go.
Transportation will probably be train/metro.

Thank you!

Really just a matter of what you want to do and time to allow. If a true nine days. I would spend three, four nights in Florence with a day trip to Siena and the balance five or six nights in Rome with maybe a day trip from Rome to break the pattern a little. Over the years we have spent close to a month in Rome and will be back next summer for a few days. Never enough time.

If you've spent time in Paris, And you want to spend time in the hill towns, I'd head right to Siena. There's a bus from FLR to Siena that takes 1:33. Spend 3 nights. Visit Castellina in Chianti and Certaldo. The first by bus, 32 min.
The second by train, 35 minutes. These are two very different towns. In Certaldo take the funicular up to the old town.

Then head to Florence for 2 nights. This will give you a taste of this wonderful city. You then have easy access by train to Rome, about 90min.
Spend 3 nights and 1/2 day here.
