I am planning a self-guded trek with my daughter in Sardinia in mid-May. We have seen itineraries for both Southeastern and Southwestern Sardinia and each looks equally beautiful. We are experienced hikers and love beaches and mountains. If anyone can convince one way or other we would be most appreciative.

Chia and the south coast towards Porto Pino are spectacular, but also Villasimius. We based in Cagliari and did hikes in both directions. I think it would depend on what each individual itinerary includes. By mid-May the best of the flowers will be finished but you might manage a swim. Viceversa end of April the Mediterranean landscape is even more beautiful for the flowers but sea water almost impossibly cold......If you want flowers as well mid-May look at the Santa Teresa di Gallura area heading down west from there......
