While your plan is do-able it's not very wise. You'll spend all of your time on the train and changing hotels. Spending one day in a city including getting to that city leaves no time for exploring and seeing the sites. You have 6 cities (areas) listed over the course of 8 days. This is way too much and won't allow you to visit anything. You need to check the travel times between cities. An example is: Venice to Rome is over 4 hours. That's most of the day when you add checking out of the hotel, getting to the train station, the ride, getting to the next hotel and checking in. I would suggest picking two cities and seeing them. 8 days is not really a lot of time and wasting it to spend 4 hours in 6 places seems like a waste of time to me. Donna
Jigar, My husband and I (in our 60's) went to Italy last summer and focused our 8-day trip on 3 cities. 4 days for Rome, 2 days for Florence, 2 days for Venice We chose to travel by train as we had heard too many horror stories about car rentals. Glad we factored train travel time into our itinerary. We started in Rome. We spent 3 full days in Rome staying at the Hotel Borgognoni near the Trevi Fountain & Spanish Steps. (Next trip will probably stay in an apartment in the Jewish Ghetto in Trastevere. Food and lodging is cheaper.) We traveled by train to Florence on the morning of the 4th day (staying at the Hotel Brunelleschi) and spent the afternoon and morning of Day 5 seeing Florence. That afternoon, we went to a winery in Greve, Chianti for food and wine! We were advised by our travel agent to skip Pisa - it's a long ride to Pisa from Florence and back to see a building that is leaning. We enjoyed the Chianti experience tremendously. The morning of Day 6 we took the train to Venice. (Stayed in Hotel Kette) That afternoon we walked as much of Venice as we could before diner and an evening gondola ride. The morning of Day 7 we took a historical tour of Venice and The Doges' palace; that afternoon we took a water taxi to Murano to see a glass factory. We spent that evening in St. Mark's Square listing to the St. Mark's Orchestra. The morning of Day 8 we toured St. Mark's Basilica then in the afternoon took the train back to Rome and stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott (by far the worst hotel of the trip). Day 9 we flew back to the US. Our hotels were pricy but had a/c, included breakfast and in perfect locations for our itinerary. We could have saved by not including the breakfasts, but we were able to pack more into our sightseeing by having breakfasts at the hotels.
