We will be touring Italy next summer. We will be spending a few days in Cinque Terre. We were considering going to Monaco for a side trip for a day or two. How long would it take? Is the trip over there worth the time it takes to get there? We are new to Italy/France so any suggestions would be helpful.
I was in Monaco this Aug. and while it is a nice visit and lots of expensive yachts and VIP's are there I would not go unless I was already in the Fr Rivera. You could see so many other wonderful places closer to CT. Consider Sta Margarita Ligure then boat ride to Portofino (close to CT)or Capri and incredible Sorrento and Amalfi coast(the beauty here is close to unbelievable).E if you need more help.
My recom would be see Italy first next trip go to France.
For the record, it would take a minimum of 5-6 hours to get from the Cinque Terre to Monaco by train with one or two changes.
If I were going to take a two-day trip from the Cinque Terre to the Cote d'Azur, I'd wave at Monaco on my way to Nice and spend my time there.
