Can I purchase a sim card at FCO upon arrival in Rome? I've had my phone unlocked here by ATT.
Ron in Rome has lots of information on his website and a posting on purchasing a sim card at FCO. www.roninrome.com check it out. I am heading to Rome in Mid-October and if I don't come across a place at the FCO to get a sim card I will just wait and get one in Rome. From our past experiences there will be many places to get a sim in Rome.
I don't know personally, but if you do a google search with this as the query - sim card fco airport rome - you'll find lots and lots of sites that discuss this exact question. If you add site:ricksteves.com to the query, it will limit the search to posts on ricksteves.com. Hope this helps.
If you take the Leonardo Express into Roma it will deposit you at Stazione Termini and there is a TIM store upstairs from the McDonald's on the other side next to Ristorante Ciao. A rechargeable simm card can be purchased for 10 euro. Buon viaggio,

Why wait until you are at FCO to purchase it when you can purchase it before your trip, saving you the hassle of going to the TIM or Vodafone store (of which their are both)? Depending on your arrival time, they may not even be open. A better option is to get the Uno Mobile SIM card from Amazon or http://www.cellularabroad.com/italySIMcard.php (less expensive at Amazon but Cellular Abroad can answer questions). This SIM has better international rates than Vodafone or TIM and all the prompts, instructions and customer service are in English. It costs more than a TIM or Vodafone SIM but the convenience is certainly worth the few bucks more.
The Uno Mobile SIM card sounds like it has pretty good rates, but before you go that route be sure and read the negative reviews on Amazon about the problems some had with recharging the card. If you know that in advance, you may be able to figure out how to recharge before you go.
