We are considering travel May or September to Rome, Florence and Venice with a possible 7 day cruise from Italy to take in Greece. How many days will we need, what are must see in Greece and any other tips?

Pretty broad question with no idea of what you like to see or do. All "must see" locations are well covered by most guidebooks. We would prefer September over May and perhaps late Sept to early Oct. You really need to do some homework via DVDs, guidebooks, etc., so that YOU have some idea of what you want to see. You can see Athens in a day or a week. Just a question of how much detail you want to see. On short visits we tend to avoid museums because they can consume huge amounts of limited time. This site works much better when you can ask specific questions. Most of us do not have the time write a guide book for you.

If you do an organized 7 day cruise, they will choose the spots, if you have the choice of more of an Island route vs the Peloponnese, then after time in Italian cities, the islands might be a nice contrast.

Have you tried posting this question on Tripadvisor-Greece forum? You will find that many who post on these forum are DIY travelersand can be very helpful regarding itineraries once they know your interests and specifics. How many days total do you have for your vacation? What are your interests? Trip advisor site has much information. Happy planning. It's alot of fun!
