72 hour PCR

Good Afternoon,
I know this question has been beaten to death but when I do a search, I’m only seeing posts from 2 or more months ago.

I understand I will need a 72 hour PCR test to enter Italy. Is the 72 hours from departure of originating airport (3:23pm est, layover then depart at 7:25pm est) or 72 hours from arrival in Rome (11am Rome time)?

Thanks for the Help!
Amanda

It doesn't have to be a PCR test. It can be an antigen test

Thank you, Alice for the clarification! Now I just need to figure out the timing :)

The test must be WITHIN 72 hours before arrival, not exactly 72 hours before. So you could test closer to your departure/arrival to be safe. For instance, I am leaving for Rome this Thursday afternoon, arriving there on Friday morning. I have a test scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, morning - about 45 hours before arrival. This should give me some cushion at both ends of the trip.
