7 Nights in Northern Italy with Kids

I'd love some feedback on an itinerary for a trip to northern Italy during the third week of April.
We arrive in Milan and will have 7 nights. We're traveling with our two kids, ages 6 and 4.
Currently, my plan is to pick up a car at Malpensa and drive to Bergamo, where we'll stay for two nights (my airbnb host has gotten us a parking permit).
Afterwards, I'd like to spend 2-3 nights at a town on Lake Como, and then perhaps find an agriturismo for 2 nights in either Piemonte or Emilia Romana, but preferably no farther than 2 hours from Milan so we can drive back to the airport on the morning of our departure.

How does this plan sound?
What towns do you prefer along Como?
Do you prefer another lake, or should we go to Como?
Any recs for farmstays in the two regions mentioned? Or would you recommend seeing another area instead, like the Veneto?

We've both been to Italy before (Bologna, Tuscany, Cinque Terra), and I've traveled more extensively around the country when I was a kid.

Thanks for any feedback you can offer!!

I always stay in the city when I have a flight the next day. I know I’ve seen horrible traffic in/around Milan, and there’s always the possibilities of wrecks clogging up traffic or strikes (especially in Italy) .

That's a good point, thank you.
Although if we're coming from Piemonte, we won't be too close to Milan proper, right?

Some parts of Piemonte (like the western shore of lake Maggiore are near the Malpensa airport. Others are not so close. Therefore it depends on what time your flight departs. For intercontinental flights you should be at the airport at least 2.5 hours prior to departure, so that you have time to return the car. Try to be in line at the check in counter 2 hours prior.
