7 Days starting in Perugia

We are heading back to Italy next week. 2 Summers ago we visit Florence, Rome and Venice with day trips to Pompeii and Cinque Terre (just 1 day, not enough).

This time my son has been studying in Perugia the past 6 weeks. We will be in Perugia Wednesday and leave on Saturday. He finishes classes on Friday. We plan on renting a car this time. Last time was all trains.

Wednesday is about about getting over jet lag.

1 day explore Perugia
1 day Assisi.

Then thinking we move to Siena. For Saturday through Wednesday and since we have the car make day trips to other locations. I also want to take a cooking class this visit.

Looking for suggestions and guidance.
Should maybe we visit Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy before we head to Siena?
Any nice places along the water to travel to from Siena?
Any recommendations for cooking class in or near Siena?
If our flight out of Rome on the 15th is at 1PM what time should we be on the road from Siena?
Any other suggestions?

While you certainly can go to Siena (in the region of Tuscany) if you wish, there's lots more to explore in Umbria (Perugia's region). Spoleto, Spello, Gubbio, Norcia, Todi...are just some of the towns. Read more about Umbrian towns before finalizing your itinerary.
As a bonus, they're less visited than the Tuscan towns.

I agree with Harold, stay in Umbria. Plus, your son may have discovered some towns in his free time that he would like to show you.

You might consider Gubbio, also in Umbria. It is a pristine medieval hill town not far from Perugia. Walk through the town and then take the unusual funicular, Funivia Colle Eletto, to the top of Mt. Ingino. At the top is the Basilica of Saint Ubaldo lying in a glass casket. The funicular cars resemble a birdcage, which requires you to hop on the moving vehicle. It is way cool.

Nearby you will find two bars for refreshments.

Buon viaggio,

Have to agree with Harold...he lists some amazing towns for you to visit.

For a lake area look at Castiglione del Largo. It's about 50 miles from Perugia.

If you are headed to Orvieto another lake town that's close would be Bolsena.

Figure it will take you 2Hrs 45m.to 3 1/2 hrs to drive from Siena to Romes' Airport (FCO)

The same drive from Orvieto around 2 hrs.
