7-9 nights road trip Venice-dolomites.

Hi !
We are making a 25-28 days road trip next july and 7-9 nights will be for the Italian part.

We are flying to Venice, and want to stay there only 2 nights since we already seen Venice last year and that we just want to show it to the kids.

We will then have 5-7 nights for Going From Venice to Slovenia. We need to find a manageable itinerary that would allows us to see :

Verona, lake Garda, Bolsano, Tre Cime.

After that we are heading to Slovenia.

We need one or two bases that would allows us to see the highlight of the Dolomites. We have think about Ortisei but still need one for Tre Cime, Cortina seems nice but also expensive.

Should we keeep that leg of our trip for the end (around july 27 to august 4) or do it from the start ? Slovenia mountains could be underwhelming after Dolomites.

Thanks !

If you want to stay near the Tre Cime, look to Moso (adorable little village!), Sesto, or Dobbiaco (more of a town). They are an hour+ drive to the Tre Cime but certainly less glitzy. Look at Red Rooster for some agriturismo options that won't break the bank. We stayed in one in Moso that was delightful.

I think you need to end in the Dolomites as you will need to return your car in Italy or face a huge surcharge. At least I understand returning a car in another country is expensive.

Cortina is a glitzy ski resort, and expensive. Laurel gave you some good alternatives. I would also include Dobbiaco/Toblach.

And Inwould skip Bolzano. It is a pretty city but not in the mountains, hot Nd humid in the summer, and off your route from the second Dolomites base east and south to Slovenia.

Yes definitely don't miss Ortisei (also a great home base) and if you have kids check the Cavallino Bianco family hotel, a great place for all family.
