I can not for the life of me figure out the most efficient way to get to the airport from the San Marco area for a 6am flight. I'm assuming we need to be at the airport by 4am. According to google maps the only way is to walk 20 minutes with alllll of our luggage (at 3am?! Sounds loud and dangerous) before we even get to a boat or bus stop which will then be an hour or so ride. Someone please help a sister out!
The Alilaguna boat will take you to the airport in about an hour. I caught one at 3 am in May to arrive at the airport at 4 am. Some of the boats leave from San Marco. Your walk will be from your hotel to the dock. There are other people around at 3 am. Some of them are doing the same thing you are. I suppose you could take a taxi, but still the problem of getting to the boat/taxi. Check with your hotel. The taxi may be able to pick you up close to your hotel, if there is a canal nearby.
There is always a water taxi. reliable, fast, efficient, expensive. Or bite the bullet and move to an airport hotel the night before. What hotel in Venice? You can also take the night boat (not very loud) to Piazzale Roma and get the first bus of the day to the airport. That would get you there by 5:00 am. I'm thinking that may be good enough, as I am not sure there will be any gate personnel there before then to check you in. Or you could get to Piazzale Roma on an earlier night boat and take a land taxi..
The only problem with Alilaguna and water taxi is that they will drop you 600 yds from the airport entry door. Hope the moving walkway is operating.
With a 6am departure, it will be a domestic flight. 4.30 should work especially at that time of morning. Still too damn early.
Did the flight show a 6 AM departure when you booked it? What were you thinking?
You could always move to a hotel out at the airport. I think they have a Marriott hotel out there that is actually priced reasonably.
I never allow any airline to schedule any flight to North America at 6:00 am. It's tough enough taking a 10 hr. flight without sleep the night before. You're just going to be flying to a large European gateway airport where you'll sit around until midday. Most airports also have a 9:00 of 10:00 am flight out.
Thanks to those who offered relevant and helpful advice! I feel much better about our early departure. There is an Alilaguna boat area pretty close to us so we'll likely go that route. :)
Airport will be sleepy at that time.
Just take a private water taxi to the airport, sure it is pricey but that is what you get for booking a 6 AM flight.
Keep your morning less stressful and just book a private taxi ride to the airport on the lovely boat, it is a great ride in the morning.
4:30 should be plenty of time, but allow 15 minutes for the walk from where the water taxi's drop off to the airport terminal.
You hotel can make the arrangements on pickup and advise how close they can pickup, driver will be waiting for you at the time you choose or they recommend for your flight time and becomes one less thing you need to think about.

My family and I also have a 6am flight out of Venice, the end of September. I definitely decided to have the hotel book us a water taxi at that hour. I want as little hassle as possible at the start of my long travel day back to California. It is a lovely experience, worth every penny to me.
Hi Gloria, It sounds like you have it figured out but we always book a taxi, at any hour. It's insanely expensive but Venice is always our last stop and we have additional luggage at this point as well. so we grab a porter as soon as they drop us at the dock at the airport as well, to zip us right up to our gate. Just a thought...
