In Hawaii, where I live most of the year, it will be about 82 - 84F high and 68F low.

Well, where are you asking about? www.wunderground.com is one site that gives you historical averages for specific places. But you didn't specify the location you are asking about.

there's no way to predict the weather, let alone a year ahead. I was just in Rome, Sorrento, naples, and then over in Puglia for the last 3 weeks of May and the weather was nothing short of Glorious. 70s as high, 60s as low (light sweater at night if you get cold easily otherwise not even necessary), sunny most days, etc. had a couple raindrops in sorrento and naples but nothing to be an annoyance at all. I think I missed some rain in Rome a couple days after I left for Sorrento. Temp-wise next May might not be that different, but whether it will rain or not who knows, you have to prepare for that just in case. It got dark pretty late, which was very nice. After having been to Italy in early september and late october, I much preferred May. But note that the Amalfi coast and Capri (if you are planning to head there from Sorrento) were already very busy by mid-May!

I'm in the north, pretty much between Venice/Florence. This May was beautiful, last May was terrible with rain almost every day. It's hard to predict what the weather will do from day to day sometimes.
