Luggage storage at Pisa train station

We're leaving for Italy next Tuesday. We are taking the train from Rome to La Spezia, with a quick stop in Pisa to see the Tower....is there a place to store luggage at the train station, we really don't want to drag it to the Tower and back.

Yes, there is a luggage counter you can leave your bags at. They charge per piece.

Here is a more thorough answer to your question. This answer was given previously by Larry in Elk Grove - "With your back to the station and your front to Track #1, turn left and go down almost to the end of the buildings. Turn left between the last two buildings and walk towards the building in the rear right. You will see a sign that says baggage storage in Italian (which I forget). The staff there will store your baggage behind the counter AND will ask for your passport to photocopy your picture. A piece of paper with your picture will be placed with your luggage. Then, when you return, you have to show your passport to get your luggage back. 3Euros per bag. Works great." This response is 3 years old, so it is possible that they have raised the price. I was there last September, but frankly don't remember the amount.

Make sure you book your train tickets to the Pisa Centrale station - the other Pisa train station DOES NOT have Left Luggage facilities. Here's a list of the many train stations (bottom of the article) that have baggage storage counters: Left Luggage Facilities

We did exactly this just last Monday afternoon, April 25. We were taking the train from La Spezia to Florence which goes through Pisa. When we bought our ticket in La Spezia we inquired if we could get off the train in Pisa and then come back on to another train after seeing the leaning tower. The answer was YES, and at no additional charge. (I think you are given some number of hours within which you have to make the entire trip to Florence). We left our luggage at Pisa Centrale at the luggage storage and it worked out fine. We took the (crowded) bus to the tower. That day is a public holiday -- Italy's National Liberation Day -- so the bus was on a modified schedule and it was therefore more crowded than we expected. But we got to the Tower fine, cavorted around and took a lot of pictures (all the classical poses), and hopped back on the bus back to the train station. We picked up our luggage and got back on another train to Florence using the ticket we had and got there fine.
