I am looking for a cheap room in Paris so thought maybe I could get a room in a hostel and share it with my friend. Does anyone know of a well located and friendly hostel?

Several travel books, including Rick's, recommend MIJE, which runs three hostels in the Marais: www..mije.com. Reserve in advance.

The Tiquetonne is not a hostel, but for 50EUR a night for a double with bath, it's a great deal. The Tripadvisor reviews are mixed, but my husband and I thought it was a real find deal, dripping with old time Parisian character in a fun, pedestrian street neighborhood. There are many wonderful, inexpensive restaurants outside the door, filled with almost entirely all French people. Sometimes Tripadvisor reviewers seem to compare rooms costing 50 EUR with rooms at 3X the price. The Tiquetonne is simple, old fashioned hotel.

We're staying at Hotel/Hostel Perfect in Montmartre - it's 44 euro for a small double room with shared bath. Had good reveiws on tripadvisor.
