We will be picking up a rental car at Milan Malpensa and dropping off ten days later at Rome Fiumicino. AutoEurope Ireland has the same car with the exact same terms for $187 less than AutoEurope USA. According to the person I talked to at AutoEurope, the only difference is that the USA rental is from Europecar and the Ireland rental is from Thrifty. Are there any reasons to shy away from saving money by renting from Thrifty? Any general reputation issues or other red flags for Thrifty? Does Thrifty have a counter and on-site pick-up at Malpensa and an on-site drop off at Fiumicino like Europecar, or will Thrifty add pick-up and drop off hassle? Any other thoughts?
We have used Thrifty a few times in the past without problems. The last time we picked up at Malpensa, there was a counter and the car was in the rental car garage attached to the airport terminal. So walked to everything, no shuttle. I think the FCO location is similar, but don't have any personal experience at FCO. You might also try going through Thrifty direct. www.thrifty.com Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples as far as coverages etc.
Last summer I rented a car in Germany for a day and got a much better rate INCLUSIVE of zero deductible via www.autoeurope.eu rather than www.autoeurope.com I didn't have any problems at all.
