parking?

After our week in Rome we are renting a car and going to Sienna for several days and driving around the countryside and seeing Cinque Terra. After that we want to head up to Venice for several days. Where can we park the car where it will be safe and we won't have to carry our luggage with us. We heard we could park in Mestre. Any other suggestions. We will be going in November

Take the train to Orvieto and rent the car there. Its a nice town to Visit and easy 1 hour by train. If you stay in Siena you can take the bus to Florence for a day.Parking in Mestre is easy and a 10 minute train ride to Venice.

Ginny - There's a giant parking garage as you enter Venice from the causeway. Your car is under cover and safe there and you can walk to the vaporetto. The downside is that it costs 20 Euro a day. The lot in Mestre is supposed to be a lot cheaper and near the train - I just haven't used it.

do you need to have a car after you're done in Venice? You could just return the car in Venice and be done with it.

You can park in Mestre directly across from the train station and take the train into Venice. The cost in May of this year was 4.50 Euro per day. We left our car there for 3 nights and it was safe and sound upon our return. The trains from Mestre to Venice are frequent and easy.
